Mikä on kiinteistön historia?The first building on Estate Shoys, where The Buccaneer is located, was constructed by Charles Martel, a Knight of Malta, all the way back in 1653. In 1733, when the Danes bought the island of St. Croix, their Governor von Prock built his home on the estate. He erected the Sugar Mill that still stands on site. The next owner was Michael Shoy, for whom the estate is named, and he began growing cotton there. After that came the Heyliger Company and its cattle ranch. The Armstrong family bought that ranch in 1922 and in 1947 opened The Buccaneer as a hotel with 11 rooms. It was the first hotel on the island to be built and operated by an island family. Now, nearly 75 years later, the resort is the oldest family-owned resort in the entire Caribbean. Elizabeth Armstrong is the third generation of her family to own and run the property.
